Portage County Suicide Prevention Coalition
The Portage County Suicide Prevention Coalition, established in 2006, includes an array of stakeholders and community members with the common goals of increasing education on suicide prevention, raising awareness of local resources, and preventing suicide. The Coalition consists of staff from MHRB, behavioral health agencies, health departments, universities, Veteran’s Affairs, first responders, and community members.
The Coalition meets bi-monthly, virtually and in-person, on the second Thursday of each month at the Mental Health & Recovery Board office.
Efforts are being made to raise awareness of firearm safety and of 988, especially to the youth population, and in gatekeeper trainings.

Each year the Coalition hosts the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. This event is open to anyone in the community, and surrounding communities, to come together to learn, share, collect resources, and educate each other regarding any loss an individual may have gone through at any point within their life.
