About the Class

A program for families and friends of persons with brain disorders, including
schizophrenia, manic depression, clinical depression, anxiety disorder
and obsessive compulsive disorder. Sponsored by NAMI Portage County and
the Mental Health & Recovery Board.

Course topics include:

  • The biology of the brain and major mental illnesses
  • Medication review and update
  • Problem solving workshop
  • Empathy and communication skills workshops
  • Self-care for the caregivers
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Advocacy, fighting stigma, legislating for insurance parity
  • Referral to support groups
