Board Work Responsibilities Translate into Services

The Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County fulfills its responsibilities to
county residents by providing and maintaining the following services:

  • Mental health diagnosis and treatment for adults, children and teens
  • Access to hospitalization when appropriate for adults and youth

  • Access to temporary crisis residential care for adults

  • Pre-discharge planning and aftercare for people who have been hospitalized

  • Adult, youth community support: the comprehensive management of a client's care

  • Vocational programs for persons with mental disabilities

  • Adult partial hospitalization programs providing intensive education and therapy

  • Treatment for alcohol and drug abuse for adults and teens

  • Treatment for persons with mental illness combined with alcohol/drug addiction

  • Halfway house programs for women in recovery from alcohol/drug addiction

  • Inpatient detoxification for adults

  • Mental health and alcohol/drug abuse prevention and education

  • Consultation with schools, law enforcement, other agencies about community
    members with mental health and recovery problems

  • Mental health services to adults and children involved in domestic violence

  • Medication services for serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia,
    maniac depression, clinical depression and anxiety disorders

  • Housing programs for persons with mental illness
